    Hi,

Don’t forget to add Chief Gates to the list of the Jolly Boys (“Fellas, fellas, let’s all be Jolly Boys”–something he would say regularly at the Saturday night meetings).

    Hi,

I had never heard of”The Great Gildersleeve untill about a week ago. My Mother used to talk about Fiber Mcgee and Molly, but all I knew was that it was some kind of radio show. I am a contractor and I’m doing a major renovation on a house that was origianlly built in 1945. While up in the attic one of my guys threw down a couple of old jar lids. One of the lids was an advertisement for the show.

“listen to… “The Great Guildersleeve” Radio’s laugh king. Wednesday evenings NBC 8:30 PM Eastern Time. 8:30 PM Pacific time (Repeat broadcast). the lid is red white and blue.

  3. Jim says:

Anyone know why it was that when Mr. Peavey made his opening remarks it was routinely met with laughter mixed with applause?

    Who played “Bashful Ben” Waterford????

  5. Yesterday (11/8/08) I was at an estate sale in Saint Paul , MN that had around 50 old jars with ads for old radio shows on the lids . They were tucked in the back of the cellar clean and dry in a box. I bought two of them ( 50 cents each).

One was for the “The Great Guildersleeve” and the other for “Marraige for two”

I’ve posted photos of them on my flickr page
