Death and the Sculptor

“Death and the Sculptor” is a bronze sculpture created by Daniel Chester French as a memorial to sculptor Martin Milmore and his stone carver brother Joseph Milmore. The Milmore brothers collaborated on commissions for monuments, including the granite Sphinx at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The sculpture was commissioned in 1889 and dedicated in 1893 to mark the graves of the Milmore brothers. It is also known as the Milmore Monument, the Milmore Memorial and The Angel of Death and the Young Sculptor.
